Emerging Problem in the EU: Xylella fastidiosa!

The bacterium Xylella fastidiosa is causing a severe threat to Olive trees!

The appareance of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa is causing a severe threat to Olive trees in Italy! Start monitoring your plants now, using our immunological or molecular diagnostic reagents for the detection of Xylella fastidiosa!

In October 2013 the Italian Plant Protection Organisation raised an alert to the EPPO, that the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa has been detected for the first time in olive trees in the EPPO region. Xylella fastidiosa is listed as quarantine pest in the EU (EPPO A1 list). Due to a complex of pests, the infection is devastating and causes quick decline in olive trees (1).

Our ELISA reagents for the detection of the bacterium have been verified to identify the CoDiRO isolate found in olive trees (2).

In addition we have developed a convenient PCR complete reaction kit, and a LOEWE®FAST rapid test to identify Xylella fastidiosa from bacterial colonies on agar plates.

Our reagents provide a comprehensive set of tools to monitor the disease. Please contact us for further information!

For preparation of bacterial cultures, please see the educational video from ANSES:
